Summary

Our religion stands on two pillars: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. This khutbah reaffirms their centrality.

Part One — First Khutbah

Opening — Khutbat al-Hajah

Man yahdihillahu fala mudilla lah, wa man yudlil fala hadiya lah.

Amma ba'd. Fa inna khairal hadeethi kitabullah, wa khayral hadyi hadyu Muhammadin sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, wa sharral umuri muhdathatuha, wa kulla muhdathatin bid'ah, wa kulla bid'atin dalalah, wa kulla dalalatin fin-nar.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,

Two Things That Will Never Lead You Astray

Brothers and sisters, the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, left us with a clear instruction in his Farewell Sermon:

"I have left among you two things — you will never go astray as long as you hold firmly to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet." (Reported by Malik in al-Muwatta, 1661; graded Sahih by al-Albani in Mishkat al-Masabih, 186)

The Book of Allah and the Sunnah — these are our two unshakeable pillars. Everything else is secondary. Every opinion, every fatwa, every movement, every ideology must be measured against these two sources. If it aligns, we accept it. If it contradicts, we reject it — regardless of who says it.

The Quran — Our Primary Source

Allah says about His Book:

"Inna hadhal-Qur'ana yahdee lillatee hiya aqwam." (Al-Isra, 17:9)
"Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most upright."

The Quran is not just a book of recitation — it is a book of guidance, a book of law, a book of principles, a book of comfort. But it must be understood correctly — not twisted to suit our desires, not taken out of context, and not overridden by culture or personal opinion.

The Sunnah — Our Indispensable Guide

Some people today say: "We follow only the Quran." But Allah Himself commands us to follow the Prophet:

"Wa ma atakumur-rasulu fa khudhuh wa ma nahakum 'anhu fantahu." (Al-Hashr, 59:7)
"And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it."

And:

"Man yuti'ir-rasula faqad ata'Allah." (An-Nisa, 4:80)
"He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah."

The Sunnah explains the Quran — it shows us how to pray (the Quran commands prayer but the Sunnah shows us the method), how to perform Hajj, how to give zakah. Without the Sunnah, we cannot practise Islam.

The Dangers of Abandoning This Foundation

Today, there are voices calling Muslims to abandon the Sunnah, to "modernise" Islam, to reinterpret the Quran based on current social trends. There are those who want to change clear rulings on family, morality, and worship to fit Western liberal norms. And there are extremists on the other side who add to the religion what the Prophet never taught.

Both are dangerous. The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, warned:

"Beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is a bid'ah, and every bid'ah is misguidance." (Sunan Abu Dawud, 4607; Sunan at-Tirmidhi, 2676 — graded Sahih by al-Albani)

Our reference point is clear: the Quran and the Sunnah as understood by the Sahabah and the righteous generations after them.
Aqulu qauli hada, wa astaghfirullaha li wa lakum wa li sa'iril muslimeen, fas taghfiruh, innahu huwal Ghafurur Rahim.

Part Two — Second Khutbah

Bismillah, wal hamdulillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

Brothers and sisters,

Your Takeaway — Two Actions This Week

First: When you face any question or decision in your life — before consulting Google or social media — ask: "What does the Quran say about this? What did the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, teach about this?" Make the Quran and Sunnah your first reference point, not your last resort.

Second: Commit to studying one hadith a day with its meaning. The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, was given jawami' al-kalim — concise, comprehensive speech. (Sahih al-Bukhari, 2977; Sahih Muslim, 523) A single hadith can transform your understanding and practice.

(Muhammad, 47:33)
"O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not invalidate your deeds."

Closing Du'a

Allahumma a'izzal islama wal muslimeen.

Allahumma irham al-muslimeena fee kulli makaan.

Allahumma a'inna 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.

Rabbana la tuzigh quloobana ba'da idh hadaytana wa hab lana min ladunka rahmah, innaka antal Wahhab.

Aqimis-salah.
