Part One — First Khutbah

Opening — Khutbat al-Hajah

Man yahdihillahu fala mudilla lah, wa man yudlil fala hadiya lah.

Amma ba'd. Fa inna khairal hadeethi kitabullah, wa khayral hadyi hadyu Muhammadin sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, wa sharral umuri muhdathatuha, wa kulla muhdathatin bid'ah, wa kulla bid'atin dalalah, wa kulla dalalatin fin-nar.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,

A Mercy — Not Just a Messenger

Brothers and sisters, Allah describes the mission of our Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, in one powerful ayah:

"Wa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatal-lil-'alameen." (Al-Anbiya, 21:107)
"And We have not sent you except as a mercy to all the worlds."

Not just to the Muslims. Not just to the Arabs. Not just to humans. To all the worlds — humans, jinn, animals, the entire creation. This is the scope of the Prophetic mercy.

Mercy to Those Who Opposed Him

When the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, went to Ta'if and was pelted with stones until his blessed sandals were filled with blood, the Angel of the Mountains came and offered to crush the people of Ta'if between the two mountains. What did the Prophet say?

"Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone, without associating anything with Him." (Sahih al-Bukhari, 3231; Sahih Muslim, 1795)

Bleeding, humiliated, rejected — and his response was hope and mercy. Not revenge.

When he conquered Makkah — the city that had persecuted him, tortured his followers, killed his family members, and driven him out — he entered with his head bowed in humility and said to the Quraysh:

"Go, for you are free." (As-Sunan al-Kubra, al-Bayhaqi, 18055 — graded Sahih by multiple scholars)

No executions. No retribution. No revenge. Pure mercy.

Mercy to the Weak and Vulnerable

The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, showed particular mercy to those society overlooked:

Children — Anas ibn Malik, radhiAllahu 'anhu, said: "I never saw anyone more merciful to children than the Messenger of Allah." (Sahih Muslim, 2316) He would carry his grandchildren on his shoulders during prayer, lengthen the prostration so a child climbing on his back wouldn't fall.

The poor — He lived among them, ate with them, and served them. He said:

"Seek me among your weak ones, for you are only given provision and help because of your weak." (Sunan Abu Dawud, 2594; Sunan at-Tirmidhi, 1702 — graded Sahih by al-Albani)

Animals — He forbade cruelty to animals, prohibited using them as targets, and told of a woman who entered Hell for starving a cat (Sahih al-Bukhari, 3318; Sahih Muslim, 2242), and a man who was forgiven for giving water to a thirsty dog. (Sahih al-Bukhari, 2466; Sahih Muslim, 2244)

Servants — Anas, radhiAllahu 'anhu, served the Prophet for ten years and said: "He never said to me 'uff' (an expression of displeasure), nor did he ever ask me why I did something or why I didn't." (Sahih al-Bukhari, 6038; Sahih Muslim, 2309)

This is the man we follow. This is the standard we are called to.
Aqulu qauli hada, wa astaghfirullaha li wa lakum wa li sa'iril muslimeen, fas taghfiruh, innahu huwal Ghafurur Rahim.

Part Two — Second Khutbah

Bismillah, wal hamdulillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

Brothers and sisters,

Your Takeaway — Two Actions This Week

First: Show mercy to someone who doesn't deserve it. Forgive a wrong. Overlook a fault. Be kind to someone who has been unkind to you. The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said:

"The merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on earth, and the One in the heavens will be merciful to you." (Sunan Abu Dawud, 4941; Sunan at-Tirmidhi, 1924 — graded Sahih by al-Albani)

Second: Learn one new thing about the Seerah this week. Read a chapter from ar-Raheeq al-Makhtum (The Sealed Nectar) or another reliable biography. The more you know the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, the more you will love him — and the more you love him, the more you will follow him.

"Whoever revives my Sunnah has loved me, and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise." (Sunan at-Tirmidhi, 2678 — graded Hasan by al-Albani)

Closing Du'a

Allahumma a'izzal islama wal muslimeen.

Allahumma irham al-muslimeena fee kulli makaan.

Allahumma a'inna 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.

Rabbana la tuzigh quloobana ba'da idh hadaytana wa hab lana min ladunka rahmah, innaka antal Wahhab.

Aqimis-salah.
